Chumash Land Acknowledgement

CARE wishes to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this place and all land upon which the University is located. We honor the Chumash people and their rightful place on this land, which has been taken from their community. We acknowledge the pain, suffering, and violence that the land and its people have experienced and continue to experience. These acts of violence against the Chumash people have roots in the same exertion of power and control that causes the interpersonal violence that CARE works to eliminate every day. And because of this interconnected violence, in order to create communities free from interpersonal violence, our work is linked to ending racism and racial violence and the erasure of cultures such as the Chumash peoples’. We honor their experiences alongside the survivors we work with each day.
