Chumash Land Acknowledgement
CARE wishes to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this place and all land upon which the University is located. We honor the Chumash people and their rightful place on this land, which has been taken from their community. We acknowledge the pain, suffering, and violence that the land and its people have experienced and continue to experience. These acts of violence against the Chumash people have roots in the same exertion of power and control that causes the interpersonal violence that CARE works to eliminate every day. And because of this interconnected violence, in order to create communities free from IPV, our work is linked to ending racism and racial violence and the erasure of cultures such as the Chumash peoples’. We honor their experiences alongside the survivors we work with each day.
To best serve survivors, CARE has two locations:
Student Resource Building
Our office is located on the second floor of the Student Resource Building (SRB) in suite 2145, in the corner closest to Pardall Tunnel. The Student Resource Building can be found on campus, adjacent to Lot 22 and the Theater & Dance building. Men, women, trans, gender non-conforming, and agender students are all welcome.
Gaucho Support Center (Isla Vista)
The Isla Vista satellite office is located within the Gaucho Support Center. The Gaucho Support Center can be found at 970 Embarcadero Del Mar, above the Isla Vista Neighborhood Clinic. Please enter via the door facing the parking lot and follow the signage up the elevator.
